A few weeks ago I had to get internet set up from a new provider – that provider is basically the Voldemort of the cable game so I’m not going to name them lest they come after me – and set about the dreaded task of getting the equipment hooked up and running. I’m not sure why, but I mentioned that I missed dancing (if this gives you any idea of how long the setup was taking) and it turned out that the person helping me is a bit of an acrobat! He told me about an underground dance class that takes place every Tuesday night in Fort Lauderdale and I knew that I needed to check it out.
Called HOUSE OF DRUMS (standing for “Dancers, Raw, Underground Music Sessions”), each Tuesday night at 9:30pm dancers of all ages gather at MUSE Center for the Arts for a half-hour dance class followed by a drum circle, freestyle dancing, and performances.
Unfortunately, life is life and it took me a few weeks to make it to out to Fort Lauderdale. When I finally got myself in gear I was still dealing with a back injury, so I opted to bring my camera along and see what I was getting myself in for from behind the lens!
Each class features the musical stylings of a DJ (the night I was there it was Oceans Deep Miami) which adds a very You Got Served-vibe to the entire thing.
The next day, I came across this quote by Marc Jacobs:
Sometimes, you just have to clear your head and get out to see other things. It is very important to be nourished. I love to go to museums and galleries, I like to see theatre, film, dance – anything creative. It doesn’t promise you inspiration, but it nourishes your creative soul, and that’s good.
That’s so true, isn’t it? Watching everyone dance and freestyle and just be…I felt so inspired and…well…nourished!
I still haven’t gotten myself into a dance class, but it’s on The List for the coming weeks!
