It should be no secret around these parts that I love a good sunset. Thankfully, we’ve been lucky enough to go to some of the most beautiful places in the world that boast some of the most stunning sunsets in the world. And when in
Rome Santorini, what does a honeymooning couple who loves a sunset book in first?
A sunset cruise, of course! We looked forward to the cruise from the moment we booked it. The day of, we puttered around filling time knowing that the main event would be worth the wait.
Of course, when you’re killing time in a place this beautiful it’s not such a burden, right?
We set off on a boat and route pretty similar to the one that I took for the volcano and hot springs tour earlier in the week. It was nice to get to point things out to Ryan that weren’t covered this time around and to snuggle up over some wine and beer and epic views.
We opted not to jump into the hot springs (some of us – me – were wearing dresses that required copious amounts of boob tape and some of us – Ryan – were just like…nah, lol) but I love that this was offered as a part of the cruise. Rather than just jetting out, taking in the sunset, and turning around, we got a healthy dose of history and interesting facts and the opportunity to really experience Santorini in a unique way.
After the springs, we took a coastal pass to view the major cities and ports dotting the island and stopped for dinner. I didn’t want to have my camera glued to my face so you’ll have to believe me that it was yum without photographic evidence.
I don’t think that either of us realized how much Santorini would remind us of New Zealand (where we met). I kept thinking back to our first trip together to the Bay of Islands and the similarities, down to the fun boat trips and gorgeous landscapes.
And then, the sunset! As I mentioned up at the top, we’ve seen some spectacular sunsets and this was definitely one of them. The boat wasn’t overly packed, so we were able to get a great view while we reflected on our wedding, the trip so far, and the life together that we’ve been building and will continue to build. It made us quite mushy, basically! 😉
I feel pretty overwhelmed looking back at these photos. It was such a privilege to get to take this trip with this person at this time in our lives. I’ll never forget it.
Okay! Before I start tearing up (happy tears), I’ll end there!
