This week has been one of those beautiful, busy, fabulous weeks (I called it, didn’t I?) and while I’m happy that it’s Friday, it’s not because I’m frazzled and worn out. I had a lovely lunch with Sara this afternoon and after I hustle for a bit to do damage control after all of my domains and emails went down yesterday, the weekend will be in full swing!
And, to celebrate, let’s bring back my favorite feature: This and That!
Buckle up, I’m about to make up for some lost time!
+ One of my beautiful clients has a new EP out! She’s fantastic, and you should check her out!
+ This is a bit older (a lot of these are, I’m sorry! I’m pretty much covering everything I’ve missed the last few weeks!), but it made me want to punch Piers Morgan in his stupid face for being stupid. Ugh.
+ Aaron Sorkin’s obit for Phillip Seymour Hoffman was wonderful and touching.
+ 10 Things I Learned After America Learned About Me by Richard Sherman.
+ Related: “Richard Sherman and the Thug Athlete Narrative.”
+ Olympics-related! I watched 30 for 30: The Price of Gold a few weeks ago and it was super great. This article digs into the scandal as well and is a good read!
+ Why are we still discussing “likeable women”?
+ Sad. Even though I love and hate that show, and definitely don’t like Aaron Sorkin (moving obituaries notwithstanding.)
+ Another reason to love Beyoncé.
+ This caption is the best thing I’ve ever read on the internet.
+ Every year, these are amazing.
+ I was really tempted to make a whole section about this next one but I’ll show some restraint. THIS was the dumbest piece of nonsense I’ve ever, ever seen. And I’ve seen a lot of stupid shit. I know that the wave of outrage has largely passed, but I want to make sure that I highlight this lovely lady for being sane and smart in the face of the original piece’s ridiculousness.
+ LOL, what?
+ LeanIn.org and Getty hope to change the way women are portrayed in stock images. Good.
+ Speaking of stock images, Allie is doing some great stuff here.
+ “The Six Things that Make Stories Go Viral Will Amaze, and Maybe Infuriate, You.“
+ Why infinite-scrolling in mobile apps is destroying content consumption.
+ A very cool marshalling of Twitter minions.
+ We need to talk about TED.
+ I like.
+ Anil Dash says smart stuff about the internet.
+ I love it when IRL friends start blogs!
+ How to write an e-book that sells.
+ 10 things you don’t need in your sidebar.
+ I’m currently scheming about how to get these two to England to photograph our wedding, mostly because they are AWESOME and make things like this happen!
+ One of the things that I love about Lindsay the most is that girlfriend has got her priorities straight. Great thoughts, there.
+ This is the first post that’s actually made me want to eat kale.
+ This look at hunger in America is mesmerizing and incredibly powerful. This is the one link you should definitely read if you read no others.
+ Black Harvard. I feel as though this needs another blog post to itself. This sentence made me want to cry: “They let you graduate? Must be grade inflation!”
+ “How do vaccines cause autism?” AMAZING. (Don’t click on that if your boss is standing right behind you.)
+ I don’t know how I hadn’t heard about this before! How awful and crazy! (This is the Joyce Carol Vincent story.)
+ Laura Bush talks some truth.
+ 6 reasons you should sleep naked. (I warned you: random.)
+ Life won’t begin at your next milestone.
+ OMG my ovaries just ignited.
+ Love this.
+ THE CUTE, IT BURNS.
+ I sat at my computer uglycrylaughing over this. Too good. (I’m sorry, it will take you back to Jezebel eventually but I can’t in good conscience link another Gawker Media article in this post. But click through. It’s worth it.)
+ I think I know what I’m reading next!
+ The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness.
+ Revisiting the crack baby epidemic that was not.
+ Why it’s important to keep reading books by people, even if you think they’re monsters.
That teaches me to let links build up for two months! I hope you enjoyed and that you’re looking forward to a lovely afternoon of clicking around and easing into the weekend!
And, because I’ve been listening to this non-stop for the last few days, a throwback jam:
