Ho ho!
What a sh*tshow, right?
No way to sugar coat it folks, the sky is falling, the murder hornets are swarming, and if you know who’s on deck to properly drive this thing – preferably not over a cliff – please let me know as I could use some peace of mind.
*record scratch* *freeze frame*
Wait. You’re probably wondering how I got here, right?
I haven’t blogged for months…I spend my days building websites and being snarky on Insta Stories – where’s the room for keeping up a regularly updated, well-curated web log, ya know?
Well, I’ve wanted to write (desperately). But…there’s been too much noise. On the internet, offline, it’s been too hard a hard few years to just dick around and be creative, hasn’t it? When all your juice is spent working and rage scrolling twitter and trying to not, uh, DIE IN THE WORST PANDEMIC WE’VE SEEN SINCE 1918, blogging isn’t exactly what you’d call a priority.
But! We’re here now. Mostly because I want to be and don’t need to be having been freed from the grind, grind, grind of influencing. I’ve never actually wanted blogging to be my full-time gig, but a part of the mentality of full-time blogging (which is absolutely fine! part of my job is to help people become very successful at doing that very thing!) did seep in and did impact what and why I wrote. However, now it’s 2020 and I’m far too tired to do anything that I don’t want to do.
So don’t call it a comeback, but it is a return to what blogging used to be, for me.
How did I used to do this part?
“Anyway! Links!”
Business
I’ll ultimately use this space for more business/coaching-type stuff but today I’m tired and WordPress just deleted all the links and texts I had below and now I have to redo them all SO I’ll give you a few new wallpapers and I’ll have more in this space next time. I know a few of you are still using the pink flowers backdrop from last year (yay!) but if you need a change, here you go!
Good reads
- A friendly reminder that not everyone likes Hamilton, nor should they have to, so don’t be a dick. People have their reasons and part of being a mature adult is accepting that people are different from you. Do I LOVE Hamilton and will I watch it and listen to it until my eyeballs and ears fall off? Yes. But not everyone vibes with the play and that’s OK.
Wellness
- On the Mend provides bite-sized therapy and wellness tools on a sliding scale.
- Love in the time of quarantine.
- This is such a great look at how we communicate (in love and friendships and with family). The post focuses on romantic relationships but I think the advice is universal.
Good Listens
- This episode of Sawbones gives a reflective and honest look at racism in medical honors societies.
- I LOVE Esther Perel. I know not everyone can afford therapy and listening to other people have therapy isn’t a substitute, but sometimes just realizing that other people are going through the same things can be so healing and cathartic. I definitely recommend checking out her podcast Where should we begin? and a nice little intro to that is this episode of 1A – MISS YOU, JOSHUA JOHNSON!! – which deals with the toll that coronavirus is taking on mental health, relationships, and HOLDING IT ALL TOGETHER, my god.
- While I wait and wait and wait and wait for my computer to be fixed, I’ve had to tamp down the rage in increasingly silly ways. One of them is this playlist. Enjoy (but probably only if you also grew up in South Florida.)
The Best of the Rest
- Got six minutes? Dismantle some of that untaught and mistaught American history.
Okay. Ta for now. Glad to be back, hope you’re well, and all that.
