Hello, it’s me, Bobbi! Back for another week, head currently being weighed down by crown of being one of the unluckiest people in the world when it comes to generally not life-threatening but still soul-crushing circumstances. I’m still here, still able to recognize how relatively lucky I actually am, yet deeply desiring to crawl under a rock and eat my hair until the madness stops.
I really wanted to be running into this week like this: frolicking free, celebrating wins and love and all good things.

Instead, I’m making slow-mo grass videos to soothe the trauma of just…existing…at the moment.

(I realize the dramatics here are a lot but well it’s all been A LOT. Hang with me here.)
Anyway, lucky for YOU that I saw the way the winds were blowing and kept a running commentary on links throughout the week so that I could sob into my coffee and put this out for you without delay.
Here we go.
Business
- How to Know You’re Not Insane (And how a Cards Against Humanity Staff Writer was fired.)
- Pay attention to actual business people and not people who have incredible PR and the evil blood magic of Kris Jenner behind them. I beg.
Good reads
- Why time feels so weird in 2020.
- What’s a White Black Girl? (Can’t believe I’m linking to GOOP in the year of our lord 2020 but I GUESS ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!) This quote really broke my heart because, yeah…
You’re always wondering if it’s what’s motivating the salesperson to surreptitiously follow you around the store when you’re browsing. Is it why the woman at the resort in Arizona, where you’re vacationing with your blonde college friends, double-checks that you’ve paid for the mineral sunscreen you’re walking out with?
(not that I’d ever go to arizona but still…)
- More than 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, there were black people in the Deep South who had no idea they were free.
- Reflections from a token black friend. (I know there are a lot of anti-racism links today and there will be in the future. I’d love to encourage anyone reading to read them and engage in a meaningful way. Even if you’re tired. Even if you think you’re doing the work. We can all do more. And, well, this is the place I’ll share things to dig into, to get your questions answered, not in my DMs when I’m just trying to go about my day. Basically what I’m saying is I’m doing the labor here for you so try not to gloss over it if you truly care about being anti-racist.)
- The Nazis by the Lake.
- Your guide to not getting murdered in a quaint English village.
- This is fascinating: inside the world of black incels.
Wellness
- Anxiety can suck the joy out of just…everything. And not knowing when something like anxiety, depression, ADHD, or really any neurodivergent condition is impacting your view on life and the world…it’s devastating. I’ll continue post a lot of things that I hope can provide context, a-hah! moments, or just comfort that you (we) aren’t alone. Here’s one: Anxiety Makes Me Want To Apologize For Absolutely Everything. I think we can ALL relate to the following in some way: “Anxiety makes me feel guilty for being myself because I constantly wonder if people are going to take something I’ve said or done the wrong way.” If you’re suffering from untreated anxiety it can blacken all good things out and leave you with a bleak reality. This should maybe be its own blog post but there’s help available, the suffering is not required or inevitable, and I hope that in writing here and linking these things that I can help make reaching for help or accessing resources a reality for anyone who needs it.
- There have been so many times (particularly around ADHD) that a Twitter thread has come across my eyeballs that is just…illuminating. Here’s one.
- How do you really feel? Love this illustration.
- I’ve worked with Regina for years. She is a light and reading this broke my heart. We are so lucky, though, that she’s shared this with us.
- Canned responses for when calling in Black is not enough.
- Great just great. Insane after coronavirus?
- Why procrastination is about managing emotions, not time.
Good Listens
- I totally messed up by not sharing this with you when all episodes were available but I HIGHLY encourage you to read this book (which won the Booker Prize along with a book that….should not have. Even though I…”liked” it. (Look. If I’m being honest Atwood phoned it in and Girl, Woman, Other should have been able to enjoy the spotlight ALONE ANYWAY I DIGRESS.) Here’s the episodic BBC recording of Girl, Woman, Other OR listen to the audiobook
The Best of the Rest
- Okay so turns out I’m 10% more evil than the rest of the population? Maybe all the stuff I’m dealing with is down to that. Sorry, Universe…I’m doing my best? Anyhoo, find out how much of a monster you are here by taking the Dark Triad Test. And then please report back!!
- I want only good things for Thandie Newton and also I want that boiler suit.
- Want to never sleep again? HERE YOU GO!
- THIS is how you use your clout. Please, let’s normalize this. Babygirl sold out IMMEDIATELY.
- I ordered some incredible prints from Vashti Harrison. I cannot wait to hang them! I ran through what I ordered here if you’d like to see. <3
Okay, bye, pray for me!!!
